Patrik Brundin, Professor in Neuroscience, Lund University, Sweden has recently moved to the US to direct research on Parkinson’s at the Van Andel Institute, Grand Rapids, Michigan. The Van Andel Institute originally focussed on cell signalling and cancer, but when the founder, Jay Van Andel, passed away due to complications from Parkinson’s, the institute took the decision to start research on neurodegenerative diseases. Patrik Brundin was recruited to direct this research which will mainly target biomarkers, medication to slow the progression and regenerative therapies, such as cell and gene therapy.
